Edwards and O'Neil are two of the early names in the frame to replace the former manager as manager of Wolves.

The previous coach was sacked on Sunday after the team's 10-match without a victory start to the Premier League season.

And Edwards and O'Neil - both of who have historic links to the team - are part of the names to be evaluated by the Wolves ownership.

The manager is presently at another club, which would pose a potential obstacle to his hiring at Molineux.

Nevertheless the former Luton manager - who played more than 100 of games for the club during his time as a player - is said to be a leading candidate for the vacancy.

The 42-year-old is said to have backing from the Wolves board as they start the process of hiring a fresh manager.

O'Neil is also emerging as a unexpected candidate, although he would be a surprising appointment given he was sacked by the club in December last year.

The former West Ham United midfielder is currently unemployed meaning the club would not be required to provide any compensation.
