Chiefs Confirm Domestic Violence Claims Involving Wide Receiver the Athlete
The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement on Wednesday evening indicating they have knowledge of domestic violence allegations made public in social media posts by a former girlfriend of wide receiver the athlete and were in contact with the league office.
The team omitted the name of Rice by name in their statement and said they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Allegations Shared on Social Media
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who likewise did not name Rice directly, shared a set of images on Instagram that appeared to show indicators of bodily harm. She did say the individual in question was the father of her children, and it is known she has two children with Rice, whom the team selected in the second round.
Police Reports Reportedly Not on File
No police reports were available in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.
Player's Prior Off-Field Troubles
The receiver was absent for the initial part of this NFL campaign following an NFL suspension for his role in causing a crash on a Texas roadway that resulted in multiple people hurt. Rice was sentenced a month of incarceration and probationary supervision after entering a guilty plea to serious offenses.
Statistically, Rice concluded the season with 53 catches for 571 yards and five TDs as the Kansas City went with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a decade.
